HOW TO PREPARE A CANVA FILE FOR COPY EXPRESS
1. Set Correct Dimensions and Bleed
- Go to Canva > Create a Design > Custom Size
- Enter the exact dimensions of the final printed piece
- Click File > View Settings > Show Print Bleed
- This adds a bleed area (.125" on all sides) to prevent white edges after trimming
2. Create Safety Margins
- Enable Rulers and Guides under File > View Settings
- Drag Guides to create a safe zone (usually 0.25" inside the cut line) to keep text and important elements from being cut off
3. Use High-Resolution Images
- Ensure all images and logos are at least 300 DPI
- Avoid pixelated or low-res uploads—Canva doesn't automatically upscale them
4. Embed Fonts and Flatten Layers
- Use Canva fonts or upload your own (if using Pro)
- When exporting, check Flatten PDF to prevent font substitution or layer shifting during printing
5. Export as a Print-Ready PDF
- Click Share > Download
- Choose File Type: PDF Print
- Check Crop Marks and Bleed
- Check Flatten PDF
- Download the file
6. Review Before Sending
- Open the PDF and inspect:
- Bleed and crop marks are present
- Text is readable and not too close to the edges
- Images are crisp and properly aligned
